      Ron Strickland (born Ma ) is an American conservationist, long distance trail developer, and is the founder of the 1,mile (1, km) Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail (PNT) and of the proposed transcontinental Sea-to-Sea Route (C2C). He is the author of nine books including his memoir Pathfinder: Blazing a New Wilderness Trail in .   When reading up on Deke Smith, I found another interview with him by Ron Strickland, recounted in his book, River Pigs and Cayuses: Oral Histories from the Pacific Northwest. The book can be found at the Twisp library. The introduction is picturesque: Deke standing in the doorway of his home on Smith Canyon, overlooking the mountains.
